Today, I’ll talk about cherry blossoms in Japan. Although many people come to Japan from over the world in spring season, depending on places best seasons to watch cherry blossoms are different. For instance, in Okinawa, we can watch in January, while in Hokkaido we can in May.

They are very different and also depending on kinds of cherry blossoms best seasons are different. In the column top, two points are introduced clearly.

When is the best time(month) of Cherry Blossoms in Japan? March 19th is the best day in 2020

In Tokyo, around March cherry blossoms are opened. In 2020 the Japanese government whether researchers say that 3/19 is the best day to make cherry blossoms open. Consistently 8 years the day is becoming earlier. Hokkaido’s are opened later than Tokyo(5/10). Moreover, in Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka cherry blossoms are opened similar to Tokyo.

How long do they bloom Cherry Blossom?

Usually, they’re blooming for about one or two weeks. However, depending on the region and weather differences would be appeared. Moreover, it is easier to fall down by raining and blowing wind while if it’s getting warmer after they bloom, they’re blooming for a long time.

And then we understand how much they bloom by the word as “Hachibusaki” which means most of them bloom from the weather news. We also know that they’re falling from the trees by hearing the word “Hazakura” which means the leaves are appeared after they fell.

Cherry Blossom Tree Varieties and When each kind bloom?

In Japan, there are main kinds of cherry blossoms; “Someiyoshino(染井吉野)”, “Shidarezakura(枝垂桜)”, “Yaezakura(八重桜)”, ”Kanzakura(寒桜)”.

Someiyochino bloom from the bottom of March to the top of April

“Someiyoshino” are grown in 80% of areas where cherry blossoms are grown in Japan. The color is pink and so beautiful, they usually bloom from the bottom of March to the top of April.

Shidarezakura bloom from the bottom of March to the middle of April

“Shidarezakura” often are seen in Kyoto. It is said that the name came from the situation that they’re blooming as such that they’re dropping. They bloom from the bottom of March to the middle of April.

Yaezakura bloom from the top of April to the top of May

“Yaezakura” have much of petals, it’s about 300. The famous spot to watch them is in Osaka which is called “Sakuranotoorinuke”.They bloom from the top of April to the top of May.

Kanzakura bloom from January and in March they are in full bloom

“Kanzakura” bloom from the cold season differently from other cherry blossoms. They bloom from January and in March they are in full bloom.

When are there famous cherry blossom festivals in Japan?

Takato-joshi Park in Ina city, Nagano

Talking of the event in Nagano, “Takato Park-Sakura festival” is held in Nagano, Ina city in April. We can see cherry blossoms from the top of a mountain. At night, they’re light up, so you can enjoy for while a day. I suggest you to visit there in the middle of April.
