Narai-Juku (奈良井宿) is Japanese traditional townscape. Samurai period〔Edo (Tokyo〕 era 1603-1868), this area was one of the main ways (this way was called Nakasendo) to transport from Kyoto to Edo(Tokyo). We can look a state of remaining Japanese traditional townscape and feel a histrical atmosphere.

Shizume Shrine at a southernmost tip of Narai-Juku
There is “Shizume Shrine” at a southernmost tip of Narai-Juku. Shizume Shrine was built to guard against a plague, fire earthquake and much more.
It is famous that Narai-Juku’s lacquerware (漆器). There is some Lacquer were shops. You don’t forget to take coins and paper money, the probability that you can’t use a credit card at old shops is high.

There are some cool cafes in Narai-juku old street. Recently, some vacant houses are located in Narai-juku. It is influenced that there have decreasing young people in the countryside in Japan. However, one part of young people try to DIY and to re-built to cool cafe and community space.
There are some soba restaurants in Narai-juku old street. Nagano prefecture is famous soba area in Japan.
