A bus is the best way from Tokyo to Kusatsu Onsen!
There are some ways to get from Tokyo to Kusatsu Onse. We recommend taking a direct busway. Joshu Meito Yumeguri Bus (上州名湯ゆめぐり号) is the direct bus from Shinjuku Station South Gate to Kusatsu Onsen Bus Terminal (JR Bus Kanto Company). The bus journey takes about 4 hours 15 minutes and cost /3,200 yen one way.
Kusatsu Onsen “What is Yubatake?”
Yubatake (湯畑) is located the center of Kusatsu Onsen town, about 4,000 liters hot spring per minute gosh out with white steam. Visitors can look to this characteristic landscape only Kusatsu Onsen. At night, It is beautiful that Yubatake is lighted up!
A hot spring in the Yugama that is a place where hot springs accumulate, is emerald green. This phenomenon is related to the sunlight and ingredients of hot water.
Kusatsu Onsen One-day hot spring
There are lots of one-day hot spring in Kusatsu Onsen. Actually Kusatsu Onse has two types resource of hot spring. Shirohata hot spring is gushed up from Yubatake. On the other hands, Bandai Kou hot spring is gushed up from the near mountain. We recommend visitors experience two types of resources and comparing.

Kusatsu Onsen town and street
Inside Kusatsu Onsen is constructed by some street of the traditional townscape. Especially, Nishi no Kawara Street (西の河原通り) is Mainstreet of sightseeing in Kusatsu. Restaurants, souvenir shops, small museum are located on both sides of the street. If you can lucky, you will pass someone with a yukata which is a casual version of the kimono.
Kosen-Ji Temple in Kusatsu Onsen
Kosen-Ji Temple (光泉寺) is located up the hill from the center of Kusatsu Onsen and Yubatake and next to Shirahata Onsen. Kosen-Ji Temple is a Buddist temple that celebrates the glory of Kusatsu Onsen. There are several Japanese monuments which some of them are written by Kobayashi Issa’s haiku.
