Obuse town is in the north part of Nagano. It is known for sightseeing spots having a nice cafe and sweets shops, historical temples and cultural museums. Today, I’ll introduce the model course in Obuse town. And also I’ll explain how to go there information from Tokyo too.
Access to Obuse from Tokyo
It is easier to take a train to go to Obuse town. Firstly, you take Shinkansen from Tokyo station to Nagano station. Secondly, by Nagano Rail, you can go there for about 30 minutes. It takes a total of 2 hours from Tokyo.

Eating Obusedo’s Suzaku Montblanc (Chestnut)
In Obusedo you can eat original popular sweets(Chestnut). Many people visit there to enjoy it. You can eat only every September and October.
It may take a long time to get it, so I suggest you go to the first of your trip in the morning. Obusedo is open from A.M. 9:00 to P.M. 5:00. (There is no holiday.)

Ganshoin Temple-To relate Hokusai Katsushika-
In Ganshoin, there is a painting of a bird made by Hokusai Katsushika. It takes 300 yen to watch the work. It is bigger than I thought, and it is better to watch as laying.
The parking area is free, so I suggest you go there by car because it takes a long time to go on foot from Obuse station. You can also get the stamp of the shrine, which is very attractive.
Jokoji Temple
This temple is known as a power spot of matchmaking. Inside, there is also a cafe where you can take a rest and make yourself relax. These days, there is a game with paint blush, the priest teaches you how to use it and how to write freely.
Obuse Soba Restaurant Lunch Tomikuraya
There you can enjoy 3 kinds of soba; Inaka Soba(田舎そば), Nihachi Soba(二八そば) and Sarashina Soba. The restaurant is open from A.M. 10:00 to P.M. 19:00 and the last order time is P.M. 18:30.
The first of the year is usually on holiday. There are 48 sheets including Japanese style sheets. It is near to the historical museum called Hokusaikan.

Obuse Hokusai Museum
Many works made by Hokusai are displayed in this museum. He has moved to stay more than 93 times in Japan during alive, so he also lived in Obuse town. His works include Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji and so on. There are a lot of souvenirs based on his works. You can enjoy it there while a day.

Obuse sake brewery-Masuichi-Ichimura and Matsubaya-
I suggest whoever loves sake better than sweets to visit two spots; Matsubaya and Masuichi-Ichimura. There, you can try to taste sake freely.
And also it takes 160~310 yen to drink. Shinshu(Nagano) is famous for sake because it is much of clear water from many mountains, in Japan a long time before it is said that water is important to make sake, so Nagano having clear water is a flourish of sake.
Obuse Onsen Kannon-no-yu
It takes 600 yen for adults and 300 yen for children to enter this hot spring. From the air bath, you can watch the mountains in Nagano. It is open from A.M. 10:00 to P.M. 10:00 and every day is open. It is a little far from the center of Obuse town, but there is also the are to enjoy hot spring.
